Whales, good waves and nice wind make for a beautiful winter’s session on Phillip Island.
Tim from SHQ and I traded bowly right handers at Woolamai, Phillip Island for hours. The nice 20-25 knot breeze was grooming the fun sized ground swell. Days like this are refreshing in the middle of winter which is normally cold, grey and stormy.
We didn’t realise at the time but we were sharing the line up with some real ‘locals’ – Southern Wright Whales were cruising just behind the break on their journey north. The shot below is an amazingly timed picture – with a Southern Wright taking a breath right as I’m doing a top turn.
